The Dodge Durango returns in model-year 2011, moving to the Jeep Grand Cherokee platform. Due to begin production in November 2010, the new 2011 Dodge Durango will have a 119.8 inch wheelbase — several inches longer than the new Grand Cherokee.
The lineup starts with the well-equipped Express model, and quickly moves to Durango Crew, which has remote start, rear backup camera, memory seats, and power liftgate. We're completely smitten with Chrysler's latest hi-po Hemi, which displaces 6.4 liters and offers up to 470 horsepower and a matching 470 pound-feet of torque in the engine bay of such vehicles as the Dodge Challenger SRT8 392. Of course, not everyone can manage a two-door with limited space inside for passengers and cargo, which is why Chrysler has placed the massive lump under the hood of the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 as well.
Inside Line cites "a source close to the project" as saying the Grand Cherokee's platform sibling, the Dodge Durango, may also be in line for a 470-hp power infusion for 2013. It only makes sense, since the Jeep and the Dodge share major assemblies between them and both offer the same V6 and V8 engines (besides the range-topping SRT8, for now...) and since Dodge has historically been Chrysler's performance division.
Possibly tipping the scales in the opposite direction, though, is the fact that the Durango R/T, which features a 370-horse version of the Hemi mill, has reportedly not been selling up to expectations. Il also cites pricing as a possible roadblock, since the Jeep SRT8 already tops $50,000 and the Durango SRT8 would likely hit that figure as well, since it would use the same engine, all-wheel-drive system, adjustable suspension and massive Brembo brakes.
As for us, we can think of few better ways to shuffle yourself plus six passengers and their luggage than in a 470-horsepower Durango. And so we ask you: Should Chrysler offer a Dodge Durango SRT8?

The Dodge Viper was conceived as a modern interpretation of the classic muscular American sports car. Debuting as a concept in 1989 to huge consumer enthusiasm, everything about the production

The second-generation Dodge Viper saw the SRT-10 roadster become a true convertible with a folding top. The Viper SRT-10 coupe returned a few years later featuring the previous coupe's "double bubble" roof and dramatic rear styling. The Viper still employs a V10 with an astounding amount of power delivered over a broad range -- 600 hp and 560 pound-feet of torque to be exact -- and to handle it the Viper uses a beefed-up transmission and massive brakes. Compared to the original, newer Vipers have a longer wheelbase, a stiffer chassis and revised suspension tuning, which give the car greater dynamic precision. 2013 Dodge Viper coming in late 2012, stability control confirmed. Chrysler is finally reining in its big bad snake. After years of shunning stability control for its no-holds-barred feel, the Pentastar is planning to incorporate stability control on the next-generation Dodge Viper. Set to debut in 2012 as a 2013 model, the vehicle's systems are currently undergoing testing on a 2010 chassis, and Chrysler was kind enough to share a photo of the serpent slithering through the snow.
There's just something about seeing a supercar on the powder that makes us grin like a canary-fed feline.
What else do we know about the next-generation Viper? Few solid details have been confirmed as of yet, but word on the web is that buyers can look forward to somewhere between 600 and 700 horsepower. The Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) has just named the revamped
2011 Dodge Journey the “Family Car of Texas.” The Journey beat out other crossovers for its family-friendly features, strong performance, impressive fuel economy, and safety.
TAWA bestowed the honor after more than 50 journalists had the chance to get behind the wheel and drive the Journey at the group’s annual Spring Roundup May 2 at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

Dodge has released Avenger Rally Car, which is a one-off concept. The car boasts a Brilliant Black exterior with a huge rear spoiler, lowered and stiffened sport suspension. The raid height is reduced with 38mm. The cara sits on 18” alloy wheels fitted with performance Pirelli P-Zero tires.
The interior hass carbon fiber trim, a fully programmable instrument cluster, OMP racing seats, an eight-point roll cage and a fire extinguisher.
Dodge Avenger Rally Car is powered by a 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 with some upgrades – CAI system and high performance exhaust system. The power is boosted to 304PS (224 kW), instead of the factory’s 287PS (211 kW).

Dodge has revealed a special edition of Charger, just before the car’s official debut at the New York Auto Show. Dodge Charger Mopar Edition will be limited to just 1000 units and the price starts at $39 750.
Dodge Charger Mopar Edition is powered by a 5.7 liter HEMI V8 with 375PS (276 kW) and 535Nm (395 lb-ft). The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox and the acceleration is pretty good – 0 to 60 mph in around 5 seconds.
Charger Mopar Edition has black exterior finish with an aggressive blue stripes over the hood and roof. The unique appearance is completed by a set of enormous 20” alloy wheels in dimensions 8J x 20” fitted with 245/45 ZR20 Goodyear F1 Supercar tires.
The interior boasts Katzkin leather seats, metallic trim and a strange shifter. There are also alloy pedals, Mopar floor mats and an individually-numbered plaque.
The suspension is also revised. It features bigger stabilizer bars (30 mm at the front and 20mm at the rear) and strut tower braces.
Last, but not least, Mopar installed a high performance braking system with enormous calipers and discs behind the 20” wheels.
Customers who purchase a Mopar ‘11 Charger will receive a personalized owner kit in a customized Mopar ‘11 box. The kit will include a certificate with the vehicle identification number (VIN), exact date of manufacture and the number of the vehicle. The kit will also include a brochure that custom headlights the unique features of the vehicle, exclusive Mopar ‘11 merchandise.

In mid-2010, Ralph Gilles said the 2012 Dodge Viper, if approved, would use weight-saving expertise, materials, and technology (but not parts) from Ferrari, with a V-10 derived from the current 8.4L engine. Gilles said the Viper will always be V10 powered, but that there might be a V8 powered sibling (presumably along the lines of the once-proposed, Daimler-rejected Chrysler Firepower). In December 2010, he told Detroit News that "everything would be changed," but it would not be based on Ferrari or Alfa underpinnings; and that the dimensions were quite dissimilar from the Alfa 8C. The engine is likely to be new, and there are many possibilities: a revised version of the LA V8-based V10 the Viper has always used, a V10 based on the Pentastar V6 (though this would probably require a prohibitive amount of engineering money, unless Fiat planned to use the same engine in a Ferrari or Maserati), a Hemi-derived powerplant (though again the engineering costs would be high), and a V10 based on a Fiat design are all possible. Gilles did add in December 2010 that he was looking to Fiat to help tune the new Viper’s chassis, making it more controllable by ordinary drivers, and that it would arrive in 2012 as a 2013 model; it has been in development and has been approved by Chrysler's board.
A 2013 Viper prototype was driven into the September 2010 dealer meeting, to the amazement of everyone there. It is apparently a big styling change which was apparently universally esteemed by those who saw it. The looks are more upscale, and the product committee took just five minutes to unanimously approve the car. One observers said it was “dramatic and awesome.” The 2012 (production) mockup was apparently closer to the second generation Viper in appearance; the main deviation from the second-generation Viper was in the nose. The overhangs are much smaller, though the wheelbase appears to be the same; and there are definite Firepower cues. One clue as to the new V10 engine was in the Dodge Challenger V10 Drag Pak and Viper ACR-X, which share an 8.4-liter, 512 cubic-inch engine producing 640 horsepower.

First Drive: 2011 Dodge Charger. Frankly, we're glad Dodge didn't hold its Charger press introduction in Hazzard County. The roads outside San Francisco are better, there aren't any creeks we'd have to cross without a bridge, and the police are scarcer than Boss Hogg. This gave us a fine opportunity get a good first experience with the 2011 Dodge Charger.
First things first: There will always be Mopar fanatics (this author included) who still cringe that the 2006-10 Charger has four doors. To our great satisfaction, an after-hours conversation with an unnamed Chrysler official at the new Charger's launch yielded this insight: "It was a car we designed first and named later. It was never meant to be called a Charger, but that's how it ended up." Damn the marketing people. They screw up everything.
But we'll let bygones be bygones, and snag another bone to pick with the Dodge Boys: The automaker refers to the 2011 model as all-new. It's not. The basic chassis architecture is carried over, as is the 5.7-liter Hemi V8. What's different? Everything else.

First Drive: 2011 Dodge Charger. Bo and Luke have matured a bit since The Dukes of Hazzard went off the air in 1985. The pair drove, crashed and flew plenty of Rebel-flagged Chargers in their day. Having matured past these antics, both men would likely appreciate the 2011 Dodge Charger. Certainly, the sedan's styling more closely matches the second-generation Mopar they're known for hotfooting, and the significantly improved interior would also likely satisfy their more refined backsides.
We knew what to expect when we saw the new Charger earlier this month. We were part of a small group of journalists granted a sneak peak at an early styling study of the rear-wheel drive sedan way back in December of 2008. But at the time – given Chrysler's dire condition and the tanking economy – we had our doubts if the lights would remain on in Auburn Hills long enough for the new Charger make it to market.

2010 Dodge Charger SRT8. Fuel economy is rated at a pitiful 13 mpg city/19 mpg city highway (car of NASCAR, indeed), and I averaged 16.6 mpg combined over 166 miles of city and highway driving. A long highway slog probably helped those numbers, but less than 17 mpg is still not exactly going to win friends in the Sierra Club.
If the Challenger is a frat boy, then the Charger is the older alumni who's settled down with a career and family, but still knows how to party during boy's night out. I can't call the Charger a sleeper--no car with bright blue paint, a large rear wing, and a hood scoop qualifies--but it is docile during daily driving. Only when you awaken the beast that is the Hemi do you remember what this car can do.
The 2010 Dodge Charger SRT8 is one of the last of the big rear-drive sedans, but the Charger/300 line has done well enough that it will remain part of Chrysler's product portfolio, pending a makeover, as the company moves forward in its marriage with Fiat. It will remain rear-drive, as well.

2010 Dodge Charger SRT8. Most of my driving was on the highway and around-town, so I didn't get a good read on handling, but the ride is stable and compliant. It's stiffer than one would expect from a large sedan, but that's the fault of the performance suspension. Regardless, it's Image by sidehike via Flickrnever punishing. One note on the handling: while I never had a true chance to put the car through its paces, I did ride shotgun in it at Road America, alongside a pro driver from NASCAR's Nationwide Series. Judging by how casual he was in conversation, I am guessing he had few complaints.

On the highway, the Charger is a quiet, comfortable cruiser, but you're always aware of what the car could do if pressed.
Unlike the Challenger, which is loud from the moment the V-8 is fired till the second it's shut down, the Charger is quiet at idle. At part-throttle, the V-8 makes its presence known, but it's not until the driver is at full throttle that the engine engages in full song.
The transmission is competent, but the manu-matic is a bit annoying. It's easy to activate it when you don't want to, and it's harder to disengage than it should be--the driver needs to slide it to the right for several seconds to re-enter "drive". Image by sidehike via Flickr
Inside, the Charger suffers from the same dreary interior as the Challenger, and the same clunky Uconnect interface. White-face gauges help, but otherwise there is too much unrelieved black and too much plastic. At least the seats are comfy, legroom is plentiful, and headroom is more than adequate. Rear visibility isn't too hampered by the large rear wing. Oh, and trunk space is on the "cavernous" side of the scale.

Both the Charger and 300 are available with high-performance SRT8 packages, and so it was that I recently found myself spending a few days behind the wheel of a Charger SRT8, which is billed as the"official passenger car of NASCAR." Given this car's size and shape, that seems appropriate.

The SRT8 based at $38,180, including such standard features as a 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 that makes 425 horsepower, a five-speed automatic transmission, a sport-tuned suspension, side-curtain airbags in the front and rear, keyless entry, ABS, traction control, an antiskid system, a remote start, air conditioning, heated front seats, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and satellite radio.

Once upon a time, as readers of a certain age may recall, large rear-wheel drive family sedans ruled the road. That changed eventually, as sedans downsized and became front-drive; minivans, SUVs, and crossovers began to appear on the roads. Even large sedans started switching to front-wheel or all-wheel drive, and the few rear-drive large sedans left seemed to be aimed at the early dinner crowd.

Enter the 2010 Dodge Charger and its sibling, the Chrysler 300. Perhaps the last of a breed, these two sedans offer rear-drive, lots of space, and a mission that appeals to Mom and Dad, not their parents.
1968 saw an aggressive restyling effort by Dodge. The front fenders and rear quarter-panels were shaped in what was called “Coke bottle styling.” A high-performance R/T (Road/Track) package was offered with an optional 426 HEMI. The Dodge Charger remained at the forefront of the American muscle car segment throughout the next decade, with several overhauls to the interior and exterior design. Despite the success of the previous Charger Daytona which featured a fiberglass nose, a modified tail wing, and a 440 Magnum engine, the industry towards the muscle car was beginning to shift. Eventually, Dodge shifted the focus from performance to luxury, as the 1975 Charger was based on the Cordoba. The Charger would still be able to show off performance-based drivability, but its image of a roadburner was starting to be phased out. After Carroll Shelby took over design of the Charger in 1983, styling was the name of the game. Racing stripes, an updated nose, upgraded brakes, and more responsive handling were the specialty, and it was what kept the model afloat during an era of change.

The Charger's headlights always made the car look pissed off, but the new model appears to be in an even worse mood with a more aggressive scowl. The hood is definitely more chiseled as well, with what appears to be two recesses stamped in on either side of a center spine. Finally, the lower bumper receives new fog lamps and a larger lower air intake.

There were rumors that Dodge passenger vehicles would soon be sporting new badges that ditched the horned ram, in light of Ram trucks being spun off as its own brand. This prototype, however, is wearing a traditional Dodge badge with the hooved mammal's head in relief like always. Spy Shots: Cover lifted on 2011 Dodge Charger. We've seen plenty of spy shots showing heavily cloaked prototypes of the 2011 Dodge Charger before, but our spy photographers just found the holy grail. Who knows how it happened, but the cover on this Charger prototype (we're guessing it's an R/T model) got flipped back to reveal the redesigned sedan's new snout for the first time and our spies snapped the hell out of it.

The Charger's new look will apparently be an evolution more than a revolution, with the current sedan's squared off front end and angry expression receiving several tweaks. The grille, for instance, appears slightly taller and juts out farther creating a schnoz not unlike what you'll find on the front end of a Mitsubishi Lancer (not a fan of the faux chrome, though).

New 2010 Dodge Charger. This is a fairly large and comfortable vehicle, with good handling and miles per gallon. It has ABS/Stability Contol, side curtain airbags, power seat, Sirrius radio and a fold down rear seat back. It drives nicely, with good acceleration from its 3.5 liter V6 and a stable ride. My all wheel drive 2010 Charger SXT replaced a somewhat similar AWD 2005 Dodge Magnum, which also was a nice car. The Charger has a much nicer interior, fairly understated but with nice brushed chrome accents and green lighting, including a halo around the cup holder.

Reviews read by TheCarConnection.com show that this retro-styled four-door sedan is still a hit after four years on the market. The Dodge Charger was one of Detroit's first modern reincarnations of the late 1960s muscle cars that scorched drag strips so many decades ago. The nostalgic appeal of the Charger runs deep and is only boosted by the tasteful modern styling updates.

There’s no doubt that the 2010 Dodge Charger is bulky. Edmunds explains that it’s "based on the same Mercedes-derived platform used for the Chrysler 300 and [now discontinued] Dodge Magnum. As such, the Charger has four doors and is a bit larger than the average midsize sedan." According to Edmunds, the Charger is available in several varieties, which lists the available trims as "base SE, well-equipped SXT, the performance-themed R/T and the powerhouse SRT8." The exteriors of the first three trims are largely the same, though Cars.com finds that the Dodge Charger SRT8 is distinguished by "a hood scoop and a more aggressively styled lower bumper with air inlets"—styling cues that "makes it look angry."

2009 Dodge Charger. The Charger sees only a few minor changes for 2009, including a new taillight design, cup-holder lighting, a rear-window-mounted antenna, and newly standard aluminum wheels. The SE gets interior upgrades; 5.7-liter models get 28 additional hp, an ECO light that illuminates when in cylinder-deactivation mode, and a taller rear-axle ratio to aid fuel economy.
All-wheel-drive models now alert the driver when the car is powering all four wheels and also receive a taller axle ratio to boost fuel economy. SRT8 Chargers get two-zone automatic climate control, one-touch power windows, heated front seats, remote start, a retuned suspension, and automatic Dodge Charger headlights.
Highlights and Recommendations. The 2.7-liter V-6 lacks the punch to move the Charger around with any semblance of speed. Most buyers would be wise to consider the 250-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 or the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. Although 368 hp is likely overkill, the 5.7-liter V-8 brings the spirit of the Charger alive, and the fuel costs over the 3.5-liter aren’t unreasonable. The SRT8 is for those interested in a high-performance sports sedan. Safety. Dual front airbags and tire-pressure monitors are standard on all models. Disappointingly, curtain airbags and front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags aren’t standard; they’re options on all trim levels except the SE, on which they’re not available at all. Anti-lock brakes, traction control, and electronic stability control are optional on the SE but standard throughout the rest of the lineup.

To improve fuel economy, the 5.7-liter features cylinder deactivation, which allows the V-8 to run on just four cylinders when cruising or coasting. Fuel mileage comes in at 16 city and 25 highway for rear-drive models. All-wheel-drive R/Ts achieve the same city number and fall to 23 mpg on the highway.

For the few who aren’t satisfied by the pull of 368 horses, Dodge offers the 425-hp Charger SRT8, which has a number of chassis tweaks, larger brakes, and unique trim in addition to its 6.1-liter V-8. The SRT8 is a big-time blast to drive and will run with far more expensive and exotic machinery. The downside of its horsepower hysteria is seen in the fuel-economy numbers, which come in at 13 city/19 highway. Inside, the Charger features a roomy interior but suffers from having plastics that don’t look or feel particularly rich. The Charger makes up for it by driving with a solid refinement that is often missing in most of the front-wheel-drive competition.
In a recent comparison test, we pitted a Charger R/T against Pontiac’s new G8. The Charger finished second to the newer Pontiac but drew raves for its handsome exterior styling, supportive front seats, and easy-to-use controls. The Charger fell behind the G8 in steering feel and long stopping distances. The 2008 Charger R/T in the comparo was slower to accelerate to 60 mph than the G8, but a power upgrade for the 5.7-liter Hemi (up 28 hp for 2009) should help close the gap.

2009 Dodge Charger. Dodge dusted off the Charger name in 2006 and slapped it on a full-size, rear-wheel-drive (all-wheel drive is an option) sedan closely related to the Chrysler 300. Although the 300 will appeal to those seeking luxury, the Charger is intended to attract buyers looking for performance in the family-sedan segment. Larger than some of the run-of-the-mill front-drive family sedans such as the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, the Charger sports aggressive and polarizing styling.

Four engines are offered in the Charger. Basic SE versions are powered by a 2.7-liter V-6 with 178 hp coupled to a four-speed automatic. Acceleration with the 2.7-liter is tepid, as the engine works hard to move the Charger. Fuel economy for the base engine is an estimated 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

Moving up to the SXT yields a 3.5-liter V-6 with 250 hp and a four-speed automatic. SXT models are available with optional all-wheel drive that comes standard with a five-speed automatic transmission. The larger V-6 moves the Charger with much more spirit than the base engine, but it will seem a bit slow if one samples the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. The 3.5’s larger displacement hurts fuel economy slightly; the rear-drive SXT returns an estimated 17 mpg city and 25 highway.

All-wheel-drive versions achieve an estimated 17/23 mpg.

And speaking of that muscle, while it’s obvious we can’t see what is under the hood, Charger fans should expect to see the latest version of the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, currently rated at 368 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque. We expect Dodge to eke out a little more power in this application; perhaps the 390 hp as in the Ram’s version of the engine. Additionally, the new Pentastar V-6 debuting in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee will serve as the base powerplant with some 280 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. While the future of the performance SRT line has often been in question, we’d say it’s safe to expect a Charger SRT8 to remain in the cards with as much horsepower as—or maybe more than—the 425 offered by the current 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 (a more powerful 6.4-liter version has been rumored for some time).
The new Charger should appear in the buff sometime this auto-show season with production beginning late in 2010, but with so much uncertainty wrapped around Chrysler’s future, that estimate is most likely subject to change.

As Chrysler continues to struggle in the absence of new product, it’s refreshing to finally get a glimpse of the next-generation Dodge Charger, which can’t get here soon enough. Although it’s covered in camouflage, we’re able to see some new cues that appear to have been influenced by its retro-sibling, the Challenger.

A More Aggressive Stance

For starters, up front we can see the trademark cross-hair grille grows larger and is restyled. Rather than being a canted overbite tucked under the nose, the new grille bubbles out from the center of the cross hairs, while the hood retains its domed shape.

A smoother greenhouse incorporating a more steeply raked windshield nicely accents a new shoulder line. Sweeping along the doors, the line flows into a slightly extended rear deck. With camo hiding the aft section of the rear-door glass, we can only speculate that changes are below, which we think could mean more glass at the C-pillar instead of the current car’s plastic triangle. Revised side mirrors are shorter in height and positioned lower at the base of a thinner A-pillar.

We hope that will combine with the possible extra glass in the rear to resolve visibility woes.

At the rear, restyled taillights—which could be LED units—sit in what looks like a recessed rear valance, much like that on the Challenger. Dodge Charger was one of the first of Detroit's modern reincarnations of the late 1960s muscle cars that scorched drag strips so many decades ago. The nostalgic appeal of the Charger runs deep and is only boosted by the tasteful modern styling updates.

The 2009 Dodge Charger is bulky, as Edmunds notes that it is "based on the same Mercedes-derived platform used for the Chrysler 300 and [now discontinued] Dodge Magnum. As such the Charger has four doors and is a bit larger than the average midsize sedan." The Dodge Charger is available in several varieties, according to Edmunds, which lists the available trims as "base SE, well-equipped SXT, the performance-themed R/T and the powerhouse SRT8." The exteriors of the first three trims are largely the same, but Cars.com says the Dodge Charger SRT8 is distinguished by "a hood scoop and a more aggressively styled lower bumper with air inlets," styling cues that "makes it look angry." Car and Driver reviewers contend that the Dodge Charger features "polarizing styling," but Autoblog says "the look has grown on people over the years and remains fairly unique." While the Dodge Charger draws comparisons to some of the other vehicles in the Chrysler lineup, Edmunds reviewers point out that "its front-end styling is much more aggressive than that of its siblings, and the rear roof line slopes downward in a coupe-like fashion."

Those famous (or infamous) muscle cars of the late '60s and early '70s were incredibly powerful machines, but they never offered much in the way of interior styling. However, this is the 21st century, and Chrysler knows that in order to move the 2009 Dodge Charger off dealer lots, they have to feature a well-planned, attractive interior. By all accounts, they've succeeded, with Autoblog reviewers raving about the "design and control layout, which was straightforward and functional." ConsumerGuide also favors the interior, noting that the "instruments are large and easy to read, but the steering-wheel rim cuts into view of turn-signal arrows and gauges for fuel and temperature."

Car and Driver reviewers praise the "easy-to-use controls" and point out that "cup-holder lighting" is one of very few interior changes for the 2009 Dodge Charger. Motor Trend reviewers go so far as to suggest that the 2009 Dodge Charger's "interior provides the feeling of a sophisticated fighter plane cockpit," right down to the instrument cluster and shifter knob that "resembles a fighter pilot's joystick."

During Chrysler's epically long five-year business plan presentation, there were a few Powerpoint slides that caught our attention. Among them was this shot of a new sedan with a sloping C-pillar. It didn't take much deduction to conclude that the roofline in question would form the next Dodge Charger, and now we've got more photographic proof that development is underway.

Late last year Dodge revealed much of its future product plan to journalists in an effort to prove it had a future. Part of that plan was a revamped version of the Dodge Charger due in late 2010.

Although it's not slated to be a complete redesign, the 2011 Dodge Charger will be a heavy reskin along with the introduction of Chrysler's new V6 family. This prototype was spotted recently testing in Michigan and the changes are noticeable.

This car looks much closer to the Charger concept shown a decade ago at the Detroit auto show. Expect an updated interior as well as Dodge attempts to generate a little interest in the brand while the rest of Chrysler tries to hold on until the Fiat vehicles start arriving in 2012.

The All-New 2010 Dodge Charger.
SRT-8s were expected to eventually use a production version of the 392 (6.4) Hemi with about 450-475 hp and MDS for better gas mileage. This appears to be in the works. Some estimates of power have gone up t0 500 hp but this is likely higher than production cars would produce.
The LY was to be used as the basis for three Mercedes classes: E, CLS, and R (starting in 2010-2012), when Daimler still owned Chrysler. We don’t know that status of that deal.

The next generation Charger is expected to merge the styling of the current version with a more classic look from the famous 1968 Chargers, one of the most stylish vehicles ever built. We expect that most of the “look” will be based on the current Charger rather than the 1968s. The official image shows a faux-Coke-bottle side view, with integrated front tail-light but separate rear tail-light. Note that it will be more different from the 300C; and that the following illustration is not based on rumors or speculation or personal knowledge.
The Challenger convertible is on indefinite hold; a Chrysler rep asserted that the 2010 and 2011 Challengers are both in the “definite” category, with the 2010 getting “certain” changes. The Chrysler 200C will provide a stablemate with the same wheelbase.
“Dodgeguy1961” reported the following engine list in early 2009; the diesel may or may not be sold in North America.

Transmissions were up in the air. A Mercedes five-speed automatic appears to be standard at launch, as with the Grand Cherokee; a better automatic was discussed for fuel economy reasons, but gas prices have fallen, and agreements with Daimler require the Mercedes automatic.

The 2011 Dodge Charger four door sedan will be made in Brampton alongside the 300C, Alfa Romeo 169, the Challenger, and a Lancia 4-door sedan. Substantial revisions may need to be made due to the Daimler situation; Daimler has apparently been holding some components for the Grand Cherokee as a negotiating chip, and plans to change the automatic transmissions for the Charger may be voided to keep key Daimler parts flowing. Alternatively, Chrysler could, at no small cost, delay introductions of new products and engineer out any trace of the former owners. Flashes of the Charger are expected to be shown in the Dodge Super Bowl advertisement.
The production launch is scheduled for late November 2010, the same time as the refreshed 2011 Challenger. The official unveiling will take place sometime in 2010. Pilots were built in late 2009 for the usual crash-testing, ride and handling tuning, HVAC tuning and testing, and testing of the new Pentastar V6. Pilot models with the new 6.4L engine are expected to be built during the 1st quarter of 2010.

The W5A580 5-speed automatic will be the only transmission offered when the 2011 Charger is launched. Spy shots floating around in December 2009 imply that the grille has been restyled and enlarged, with the crossing of the crosshairs moved forward; while the greenhouse has been smoothed out (cutting drag?). The curve from front to rear has been made more curvacious, moving up at the front fenders, which seem to bulge out. In back, the tail lights appear to follow the Challenger's style more. The cars roaming the streets of Detroit are heavily camouflaged.
Sergio Marchionne indicated that Chrysler was seeking a vendor to replace the expensive Mercedes automatic transmissions currently used in the LX and rumored to be in the original 2011 plans. This appears to be a long term plan, though.
Aerodynamics. The Charger will be less boxy, to improve noise and gas mileage; Styling now reports to Engineering’s Frank Klegon, and aerodynamics has taken a more advanced position.
Fuel efficiency. Expect modified axle ratios, made more practical by the greater power from the V6 and V8 alike. All-around performance is to go up; the revised V6 and the 6.4 Hemi will make this possible. (Possible weight reductions and/or aerodynamic changes could help 5.7 Hemi performance as well.)
Pentastar V6 engine (née Phoenix Engine). The 3.6 liter will pump out at least 280 hp with better mileage than the current 250 hp 3.5 liter — more quietly than the Toyota V6. The restructuring plan tells us it will reach at least 25 mpg highway. A turbocharged and twin-turbo V6 will be made, but might or might not be in the Charger. The 3.6 will gain Fiat’s MultiAir and was already slated for direct injection.
More gears in the transmission: an eight-speed is being studied, but one source has the five-speeds continuing. We’re betting on the five-speed with either engine; the eight-speed doesn't seem to add much benefit but might be swapped in later regardless, to help with marketing and avoid dependence on Mercedes. Better interiors. The next generation will set a new standard, going up against the best sedans. Comfort features. New entertainment systems and driver comfort options will appear - no surprises there.

2010 Dodge Challenger – Review.

With all three Detroit automakers now offering different models, the muscle-car wars are back on—at least for a few more years. The expanded 2009 Dodge Challenger lineup competes with the equally retro Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro, each with their own style statements.

Most reviewers agree that among the three Detroit muscle cars, the 2010 Dodge Challenger plays the retro card to the highest degree. Automobile Magazine calls it a "head turner," while Cars.com refers to its "Hot Wheels" styling.

Motor Trend is pleased to report that "the Challenger SE isn't completely stripped of Challenger R/T and SRT exterior jewelry and doesn't scream 'rental car.'" As for the other trims, Car and Driver says that "the SE is closest to the 1970 model that was the clear inspiration for this new generation" of Dodge Challengers, while the "R/T adds fog lamps, 18-inch aluminum wheels" and "a body-color rear spoiler," and the SRT8 is distinguished by "faux-carbon-fiber hood strips, xenon lights ... a matte black deck spoiler, and a deeper front air dam with functional brake ducts."

What's not available, appearance-wise, as a factory option is bound to be available as a dealer-installed Mopar accessory. Motor Trend points out that "Mopar can accommodate with everything from a Ram air hood to a coil-over suspension kit that drops the car up to 1.625 inches."

While the interior isn't nearly as edgy and retro-extreme as the exterior, it gets mostly favorable reviews from a wide range of sources read by TheCarConnection.com. ConsumerGuide reviewers love that "the Chrysler-standard control layout places most systems within easy reach," and while "the navigation system absorbs most audio functions" it does so "with good results." TheCarConnection.com's editors also appreciate how the gauges in the Challenger are very readable despite following the retro theme. Motor Trend asserts that the Challenger benefits from "a healthy dose of retro-modern style."

It's not all positive, though. Among the less favorable reviews, Automobile Magazine feels that "the cabin is nowhere near as stylized as the Ford Mustang's, and the overall look is very muted." Car and Driver also points out that the interior is "dark" and "spooky," and in their opinion, it "absolutely requires the huge optional sunroof to cheer things up."

The primary bits that came from Germany are those that manage the motion of the wheels relative to the body. The all-independent suspension demonstrated that a rear-wheel-drive car could still be viable in the 21st century and likely prodded General Motors to develop its own rear-wheel-drive Zeta platform. Unfortunately for GM, by the time the Zeta arrived for the Pontiac G8 and Chevrolet Camaro, the market was already turning and Ford's own similar effort had been canceled before even yielding a product.
The Charger became the third LX model following the 300 and Magnum when it debuted in early 2005. In 1999, Chrysler showed off a rear-drive Charger R/T concept that previewed the coming wave of four-door coupe body styles that we've seen in recent years. Unfortunately, many observers who had seen the sleek concept were disappointed that its looks had been abandoned in favor of a chunkier design that shared the front part of its greenhouse with its platform mates. The look has grown on people over the years and remains fairly unique in the marketplace. At least no one can claim that Chrysler's designers have cloned any other car to produce the Charger.
For the first several years of the LX's run, the interiors unfortunately lived up to the reputation that Chrysler had earned for shoddy driving environments. The problem wasn't so much the design and control layout, which was straightforward and functional, just the materials, switchgear quality, and fit-and-finish. For the 2008 model year, Chrysler produced a vastly improved interior for the Charger and its siblings. The materials on the dashboard are now soft touch with a more appealing texture. There are no more visible edges with unfinished parting lines from the molds. We're still not talking Lexus or Infiniti here, but this is a Dodge at a Dodge price point. In fact, the Charger's closest real competition is probably the Pontiac G8, and by comparison, the Charger interior actually looks and feels pretty good.

The seats in our SXT tester were covered in leather front and rear and clearly contoured for the increasingly broad average American backside. Following a relatively straight trajectory, the front seats were comfortable with a manually adjustable lumbar support and power adjustments for angles of both the seat back and lower cushion as well as fore-aft location. For those whose proportions of leg-to-arm length might not match whatever standard size the interior designers selected, there is also switch on the side of the driver's seat that allows the entire pedal cluster to be adjusted for distance from the seat.

The 2010 Barrett-Jackson Collector car auction is just a few weeks away in Scottsdale, Arizona and up until the auctions begin on January 18th we will be bringing you various Challengers going across the block. The first Challenger we are covering is Lot # 710.1, a 2009 Challenger R/T coupe dubbed the "Charvel Concept". The vehicle is actually Classic Design Concepts prototype widebody Challenger for the Group II widebody kit that was a Chrysler Design Award winner at the 2008 SEMA show.
The widebody CDC Challenger features a widebody kit that increases the rear fenders by 3-inches on each side. On the front of the Challenger aerodynamic canards tie the fenders to the stock chin spoiler. Also the CDC Challenger features a Shaker system with replacement heritage hood, CDC stainless mesh grille, CDC sequential taillights, CDC hood struts and a Procharger P-1SC-1 Supercharger with air-to-air intercooler. Other modifications include a Pypes performance exhaust system, KW suspension VI coilover system, Baer brakes and USW forged crossover wheels with Pirelli P-Zero rubber. The Challenger will also be sold with a matching Charvel Guitar with proceeds of the auction benefiting NotMyKid. The auction will take place on January 21st.

It's been almost a year since a Dodge Charger passed through the Autoblog Garage, and this go-around was very different from the last. Comparedto our last Charger, this one is positively subtle. Last time around, we sampled one of Dodge's police car demonstrators decked out in full law enforcement regalia including a roof-top light bar and traditional black-and-white paint job. Driving the cop Charger was a mix of euphoria and paranoia. This time, Chrysler sent over a civilian SXT model powered by the company's 3.5-liter V6.

While the name hearkens back to coupes of the '60s and '70s (we'll ignore the forgettable badge job Omni edition of the '80s, thank you very much!) this is a full-sized sedan in the great American tradition. Given the current economic environment, future fuel economy regulations and the likely trajectory of gas prices, this is also a tradition that may be on its last legs. While the Charger's looks are all-American, some of the underpinnings actually descend from the previous generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The Charger and its LX platform stablemates – the late Magnum, the Chrysler 300 and, of course, the Challenger – were developed under the management of former owner Daimler. This is one of two platforms with which the Germans begrudgingly agreed to share their hardware, the other being the ill-fated Crossfire. Fortunately for Chrysler, the LX was and is far more successful. The LX architecture actually underpins one of Chrysler's truly distinct products in the U.S. market, and in spite of using older German bits underneath, the Charger remains a relatively modern piece of kit.

Ending speculation about what new products Chrysler will be rolling out in 2010 is none other than Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli. Now confirmed are redesigned full-size sedans in the form of a new Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 as well as a new Jeep. While none of these vehicles is likely to be particularly fuel efficient, the man behind the scenes at Chrysler also stressed that new fuel-saving models are on their way by means of the automaker's recent partnership with Nissan. We believe that the new vehicle will be a version of the Dodge Hornet concept that we've seen everywhere these last few years.

The redesigned 300 from Chrysler and the Charger from Dodge will be extremely important launches. We expect the square-jawed styling to be radically different since Ralph Gilles, who has promised more "organic" styling, is now head of design. Lastly, we're still a bit skeptical that Chrysler will be able to launch an electric car by 2010, we'd love to be proven wrong. A hybrid drivetrain for the Charger and 300, though, seems like a real possibility.

2011 Dodge Charger Prototype Spotted.

Much has been said about the upcoming
2011 Dodge Charger, and the latest spy pictures of a prototype being spotted on the streets has just added to the mystery. We knew that the new model was going to feature some radical styling, and it looks as though Dodge have done just that on this prototype model.

Engadget came across some spy pictures while visiting caranddriver.com, and noticed right away that the front is more rounded and that crosshair grille is more prominent. You will also notice that the windscreen has a much more shaper angle and flows more.
The body looks as though it has put on some weight around the hip and shoulder, this is where most of the camouflage has been located, indicating that this is the most prominent feature to hide.
The rear of the car looks different as well; the rear fascia has a more smother design, much the same as up front. You will notice that the LED tail light cluster has a newer design. We all hope that Dodge will go back to a more vintage style than the modern styling of the current model.

We do not know for certain what power unit will be under the hood, but caranddriver.com speculates that this will be a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, this will be boosted to 390 hp from the current 368 horsepower. Speculation regarding the 2011 Dodge Charger has run rampant ever since a particularly intriguing picture was shown during Chrysler's major day-long, five-year business plan slideshow that was broadcast online.

It was obvious that the car pictured was not a current Charger or a previous concept, so the natural conclusion is that it was an intentional teaser of an exciting new product.

Judging by this series of spy shots from Car and Driver, it would appear that some of the more radical styling elements previewed in Chrysler's presentation will make it to production on the 2011 Dodge Charger. Starting up front we, see a more rounded and prominent crosshair grille. We also note that the greenhouse appears more flowing with a sharply raked windshield.

Along the bodysides, it's apparent that the 2011 Charger will have very pronounced hips and shoulders with what appears to be a camouflaged accent directly behind the front wheel wells. At the very rear, the next Charger echoes the changes we saw up front with a smoother rear fascia and new tail light design. So, do you like what you see?

New Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300 Scheduled for 2010 Debut

If you're of the opinion that the rear-drive Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger are both growing long in the tooth, you're in luck: replacements may arrive as soon as 2010.

The word comes from the top of Chrysler's management team. Appearing on Michael Eisner's CNBC talk show, Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli confirmed that new versions of both vehicles are currently under development.
"In the pipeline for 2010: a brand new 300, a brand new Charger," Nardelli said. "I think the product cadence at Chrysler is coming back strong."
Good thing, too - sales for the 300 thus far in 2008 are down 43 percent, while Charger sales slid a noticable ten percent.
We'd expect the next-generation Charger and 300 to still carry Hemis and bold styling, but use designs that carry more sophistication than the current examples. In taking over the reigns at Chrysler's design studio, Ralph Gilles expressed interest in focusing on "organic design" and improved interiors - we hope to see both in the next 300 and Charger.

Nardelli claimed that Chrysler, which drew criticism early this year for a lack of forthcoming product, has been working on several programs - including the new rear-drive cars - in secret. If you guessed 1970, you’re right – it was the Challenger’s roll-out year. Of course, anyone intimately familiar with events 39 years ago probably has a few gray hairs, thinks music hasn’t been the same since Elvis died and is still searching for his or her favorite pair of bell bottoms.
However, if you picked 2009, you’re also correct. In this case, you likely haven’t been married that long, have young kids, are moving up in your career and want a flame-throwing vehicle to complement the tame sport utility or minivan in the suburban garage. This year won’t exactly go down as the rebirth of the muscle car, but the new Camaro’s sizzling introduction in spring 2009 has reunited it with the Charger, which has been out in mildly retro form for a few years, the Challenger, reborn last year, and the Mustang, which never went away.

Through September, 114,319 of the vehicles were sold. The cars, generally priced from the $20,000s to the $40,000s, are available at dealerships in the Charleston area. What’s unusual is the high-performance sports cars, with ear-splitting V-8s churning out 400 or more horsepower, are proving alluring at a time when fuel economy is all the rage and buyers are steered to hybrids and other green machines. “We’ve had the Charger for a few years,” said Keith Roberts, general manager of Hoover Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Summerville. “The Challenger came out last year. It was a big hit.” Through September sales of the retro Challenger, powered by a 6.8-liter V-8 engine and available with colorful, striking siding such as orange with black stripes, has more than doubled from 2008, according to figures from Automotive News Data Center. In some cases, the models offer more muted versions along with the high-performance line. The Charger is often sold as a family sedan but can be purchased with the muscular SRT-8 package on it, which makes it “run like a scalded dog,” Roberts said.

The Camaro has proven to be the trendsetter, selling a blistering 39,151 in the past six months. Anticipated for the past two or three years, the new model has two engines, one topping 500 horsepower. "We sell every one we get," said Rick Pulcino, general manager of Hendrick Chevrolet in Charleston. "The American legend returned to the street today." According to published accounts, its success has pushed Ford to beef up the Mustang. A version of the proposed Mustang muscle car is scheduled to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show this month. “There are several packages out there, Roush and Shelby, that are high-performance,” said David Walters, president of Jones Ford in North Charleston. “They have a loyal following. It’s somewhat surprising in the era of fuel economy,” Walters said.

He suspects that buyers own a gas-sipping vehicle as their family car and are buying the high-performance models for other reasons. “I’m not sure it’s their everyday car,” he said. Roberts said he expects a core group to continue to buy the domestic power cars. “People are always going to be enamored with the muscle.”

Whilst under the DaimlerChrysler Corporation the
Dodge Charger was rescued from obscurity and relaunched with a brand new model in 2006 following its debut at the Chicago Auto Show. Sales figures have so far proved to be positive but there have been lingering rumours circling the internet that it could well be axed as it competes with Crysler's other full-size vegicle – the 300. If the boffins at the Pentastar do decide to continue with the Charger, development should be well under way for an all new model for launch possibly in 2012 or 2013. Dodge Charger Chrome Accessories.

Launching in the States in early June is the all-new Dodge Charger, blending past and future design while using state-of-the-art technology to produce one its highest quality vehicles ever built. Reincarnating the Charger namesake that first entered the world of cars in 1966, the muscle car image has been smoothed out somewhat, and two doors have expanded to four in order to cater for a wide range of buyers. With similar proportions to a Holden Commodore, measuring 5028mm long and 1891mm wide, and weighing from 1691kg to 1828kg depending on the model and engine type, Chrysler is hoping the new 5-seat Charger will repeat the successes of the 300C, which has been given many Car of the Year awards in America and will coming to Australian Chrysler dealerships late in 2005.

Aside from the 6.1-litre V8-powered Charger SRT8 (more on that a bit later in the article), power for the new Dodge comes by way of V-configured engines. The first engine is a 24-valve, 3.5-litre single overhead cam 60° V6 engine that makes 186kW (250hp) @ 6400rpm and 340Nm of torque @ 3800rpm. It has a 6800rpm rev limiter and many comparisons can be drawn with Holden's Alloytec 3.6-litre V6, particularly in terms of power and torque output.
A V8 engine is also offered. Chrysler calls it a Hemi V8, and it displaces 5.7-litres or 354 cubic inches (5654cc) and can shut down half its cylinders to increase fuel economy on the highway or when cruising. Dodge will offer the torque-laden 8-cylinder engine in two states of tune: the standard is 254kW (340hp) @ 5000rpm, while an R/T version will boost power to 261kW (350hp) @ 5000rpm. Both versions output 525Nm of torque @ 4000rpm, and the engine's output is harnessed by a 5-speed manual transmission, driving the rear wheels. Unlike the 3.5-litre V6 engine, which has 4-valves per cylinder and SOHC, the Hemi V8 has two pushrod operated overhead valves per cylinder, for a total of 16, but because of its large capacity it has little need for overhead camshafts in order to attain high levels of torque.

Chrysler, which owns Dodge, is pushing the themes of power but also quality, claiming that its new Charger is not just a modern-day muscle car. Dodge Charger review.

Dodge quietly unveiled an updated Charger for the 2009 model year. While the SXT model remains relatively unchanged for the new model year, the R/T trim level received a rather significant performance bump, while the SE has been downrated.

The R/T 5.7L HEMI V8 remains for 09, but more power will be on tap for the new model year, thanks to a new variable valve timing system. Horsepower is boosted from 340 to 368, while torque sees a 5 lb-ft increase to 395 lb-ft -- both figures trumping the Pontiac G8 GT™s 361 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque.

This engine is equipped with Dodge's Multi-Displacement System (MDS), which can shut off four cylinders during highway cruising and light acceleration for better fuel economy. Despite the increase in power, the R/T will also see a boost in fuel economy. Whereas the 2008 Charger R/T returned 15/23 mpg city/highway, the new, more powerful 09 model receives EPA ratings of 16 city 25 highway.

However, the entry-level Charger SE will be taking a bit of a backslide. Its 2.7L V6 will carry over, but output in now rated at 178 horsepower, down from 190. Despite having 12 fewer horses under your right foot, the Charger SE wonâ€™t be any easier on fuel, matching last year ratings of 18/26 city/highway. Exterior changes include newly designed taillights, with the car's antenna moving to just above the rear window. Interior changes are minimal as well, with the SE now receiving the same interior as the R/T, and the R/T gaining satin silver trim. The SXT continues with its 3.5-liter V6, delivering 250 horsepower. The R/T and SXT come with a five-speed automatic gearbox, while the SE has a more basic four-speed automatic.

Dodge Challenger will get deceleration fuel cutoff to improve gas mileage — even on automatics.

Super Track Pack is confirmed for late in the year as an R/T option. Stability control is standard on all models; automatic headlights with LED cup holder and door-handle lights are standard on R/T. Changes to the Challenger SRT8 are a new limited edition Plum Crazy model, serialized dash plaque, and plum accent seat-stripe insert.

The government’s increasing gas mileage restrictions should not hurt the Challenger, whose mileage will improve with new technologies (like the decel fuel cutoff) and the upcoming Pentastar V6 engines. Fiat has no ideological opposition to the Challenger, but the open question is whether the Ontario factory can churn out the Challenger alongside the new 200C (which has the same wheelbase), 300C, Charger, and a planned Alfa Romeo version.

Gas mileage for the Dodge Challenger is good for a car of its size and power, with the 5.7 liter Hemi getting 16 mpg city, 23 highway (automatic; the manual transmission drops down to 15 city, 23 highway, and requires premium rather than midgrade gas). On the highway, you can maintain 27 mpg if you have the stick.

When the new, bigger SRT8 engine debuts, in midyear 2010 according to sources, it will have cylinder deactivation, resulting in somewhat better mileage than the current SRT. The Challenger SE, with 3.5-liter V-6, is rated at 18/25. On the highway, at a straight 75 mph with the manual transmission, you can get 27 mpg with the Hemi.

Powering the Dodge Challenger R/T is a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine producing 370 horsepower (276 kW) with a five-speed automatic (375 hp, or 280 kW, with the six-speed manual transmission). The Hemi V8 belts out 398 lb-ft (540 Nm) of torque (404 lb-ft / 548 Nm with manual), and the Challenger R/T can do 0-60 in under six seconds. The 2008 Dodge Challenger had companies scrambling to prepare for aftermarket performance demand concerning it and the upcoming full scale production of the 2009 Dodge Challenger. Even amidst rising fuel prices, the Challenger proved to be one of the most anticipated cars to "re"-enter the market in years; furthermore, this brawny street brawler just began to hit the streets with its limited edition 2008 units. Unwilling to miss out on this action and potential, Mopar Performance unveiled information about its Dodge Challenger Supercharger upgrade packages. Like they did with many other aftermarket offerings, Mopar went to a third party for help in developing and marketing high performance Challenger components; Speedfactory of Morrow, Georgia was given the task of overseeing this project, which debuted at the 2008 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Like almost all of the cars displayed at SEMA, the 2009 Speedfactory Supercharged Challenger would not only have a jump in performance, but also a full dress up to make sure that everyone noticed this special, ultra high performance Challenger.

The Dodge Charger's short-and Long-arm (SLA) multilink front suspension allowed for tuning of both bushing compliances (to cut road noise) and vehicle dynamic handling performance. The five-link independent rear suspension allows independent tuning of handling and ride comfort so that each can be maximized. All rear suspension components, except coil springs and shock absorbers, mount on a steel cradle that attaches to the body structure through four large rubber mounts that effectively isolate the passenger compartment from road and axle noise.

Three levels of suspension tuning were available on the Dodge Charger. A standard “touring” package with 17-inch tires included an athletic suspension with nimble steering and handling attributes. Eighteen-inch tires and tuned dampers added performance to HEMI-equipped Dodge Charger models, while an optional Performance Handling Group, has firmer damping and enhanced steering, with wider 18-inch performance tires and Nivomat™ self-leveling shock absorbers. This suspension was tuned to offer slightly more feedback from the road to enhance the glued-to-the-road feel. The package’s performance front seats with perforated suede inserts offer significantly improved lateral control in both the seat cushion and seat back. The Performance Handling Group package also includes a 9-land steering gear.

For 2010, the five-speed automatic finally replaced the four-speed across the board. The long-rumored 6.4 liter Hemi V8 may appear for SRT8 models (with cylinder deactivation for reasonable gas mileage), and the Dodge Challenger will get deceleration fuel cutoff to improve gas mileage — even on automatics. Super Track Pack is confirmed for late in the year as an R/T option. Stability control is standard on all models; automatic headlights with LED cup holder and door-handle lights are standard on R/T. Changes to the Challenger SRT8 are a new limited edition Plum Crazy model, serialized dash plaque, and plum accent seat-stripe insert.

The government’s increasing gas mileage restrictions should not hurt the Challenger, whose mileage will improve with new technologies (like the decel fuel cutoff) and the upcoming Pentastar V6 engines. Fiat has no ideological opposition to the Challenger, but the open question is whether the Ontario factory can churn out the Challenger alongside the new 200C (which has the same wheelbase), 300C, Charger, and a planned Alfa Romeo version.

The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will be available in three colors: Black, Silver and HEMI Orange. All will feature the same carbon fiber hood stripes as the concept vehicle, as well. The iconic muscle car that looks poised to beat the Chevy Camaro to market by a good margin is, of course, powered by a 6.1L HEMI V8 that's available with a 5-speed automatic or six-speed manual (though prior reports state you need to wait for the '09 for the latter). While power figures have yet to be revealed, this engine makes 425 horsepower in other SRT8 vehicles.
